Exhem organizes In cooperation with with Dr. Joseph S. Renzulli and Dr. Sally M. Reis 4-10 October 2025 for the second time a study tour on giftedness, twice exceptional and underachievement, to Connecticut and New York.
This study tour offers a unique opportunity to both learn about the ideas of Dr.Joseph Renzulli and Dr. Sally Reis as well as to observe how they work in practice. Dr.Joseph Renzulli is a well-known pioneer in the field of giftedness in education and he is the founder of the leading present day view on giftedness and the development of talent.
Dr. Renzulli’s Three Ring Conception of Giftedness is the foundation of many current models and methods .
Many schools in the US are working already decades according to Renzulli’s ideas. Their experience can be a great source of inspiration for us.
This tour’s programme has been carefully constructed in order to reach a perfect balance between practice and theory. The first part of the tour is scheduled in New York City where we will learn about the Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM). SEM is a methodology, developed by Dr Renzulli, that will focus on enrichment theat will be beneficial for all of the students, not just to the gifted students.
The SEM model has been researched extensively on its effectivity for over 40 years. SEM has been implemented in more than 4000 schools in the US, including schools with urban problems and with student populations with differences in socio-economic background. In New York the tour will take us to a number of schools that employ the SEM model.
The second part of the tour will take place in Storrs-Mansfield, Connecticut where the group will visit UCONN (University of Connecticut). Here we find the Renzulli Center for Creativity, Gifted education and Talent development, where Dr. Joseph Renzulli and Dr. Sally Reis still contribute to the research and to the training of gifted and to twice exceptional students. Dr. Del Siegle is an expert in the field of underachievement of gifted students. He has developed the Achievement Orientation Model. This model will learn us more about underachievement and how to get a grip on on this. During a seminar day these 3 researchers will share their most recents results and insights.
